'Efficiency is doing things right, Effectiveness is doing the right thing.' Peter Drucker

Operating Room Layout

Maintain an organized and clean surgical suite.

The surgical suite reflects every single staff that operates/works in it.  Assist each other in keeping a safe and clean environment for the team, and for the patient.

Ensure that all equipment are wiped clean after use.

Usage of a specific equipment for positioning, in a specific spinal and cranial area is paramount.

Equipment details

Anterior Procedures (supine), e.g.,

  • ACDF
  • ALIF

Microscopes are positioned according to the preferences of the surgeons.  The C-arm is always on the opposite side of the microscope.

Posterior Procedure (prone), e.g.,

  • Posterior Spinal Fusion (PSF)
  • Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF)
  • Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF)
  • Laminectomy and Microdiscectomy
  • Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) Insertion
  • Posterior Cervical Fusion (Mayfield Head Positioner)

Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion, also known as, Extreme Lateral Interbody Fusion (XLIF)

It is vital that the operating table has the capability to bend.  This will allow the surgeon to have an optimal view of the spine.

Craniotomy;

  • Frontal and Temporal (supine)
  • Parietal (Lateral, or Modified Lateral)
  • Occipital (Prone or Sitting)
